Meet the team at EBACE 2020

3 Feb, 2020

This year’s European Business Aviation Convention & Exhibition (EBACE 2020) will take place from the 26th – 28th May, at Geneva’s Palexpo.

Angie Deady-Fiddler, Adrian Jones, Mark Byrne, Heather Gordon, Martin Kennaugh and Andy Duggan will be exhibiting at stand U29 and will celebrate Martyn Fiddler Aviation’s 15th year of attending.

Year on year EBACE attracts both new and familiar faces, launches the latest products and services in business aviation, and attracts thousands of professionals involved in every aspect of the aviation industry. It’s also a chance to network with industry friend’s form around the world.

The team took a trip down memory lane, commenting on the remarkable growth of Martyn Fiddler Aviation exhibits and sharing their favourite EBACE highlights.

Angie Deady-Fiddler comments:

“I’ll never forget my first ever EBACE back in 2003 and being amazed at the sheer number of stands and aircraft on display (I had led a very sheltered life up to then!)

Back then we were Martyn Fiddler Associates; Martyn, Mark and I. In 2005 we took the plunge and booked a floor space – the smallest available which consisted of a basic pull up banner, a small table and two chairs with two of us on the stand. We were so nervous and worried that nobody would visit us but I remember being inundated from the moment the exhibition opened and having no voice left by the end of the week!

Thankfully Martyn Fiddler always did enough talking for the three of us (I’m sure anyone who remembers Martyn in the business will testify). I vividly recall the stand builders dismantling our stand around him while he carried on a meeting; the stands and exhibitors around us had all departed, and most of the lights seemed to have been turned off but Martyn was obliviously still chatting away…”

It’s crazy to think how far we have grown as a business since then and the difference between that first stand space and the exhibition stands we have now!

Martin Kennaugh reflects:

“I was shocked to realise that my first EBACE was 12 years ago! In fact that was my first ever trade show, which made quite an impression on me.

Before my first show I didn’t appreciate just how busy the stand would be, how many meetings I would be involved in and how many evening “events” I would go to, and just how much business got done after the show hours. By the end of the week, I was all talked out, slightly liverish, and the flight home was an oddly quiet affair. Over the years I’ve learnt to wear the right shoes, expect no-shows and people running late for the stand, to eat and drink when I can and that the evening events are marathons not sprints…and that the flight home will always be less lively than the one going out…”

Heather Gordon recalls (with a little cringe):

“2013 was my second year at EBACE and my

first ‘attempt’ presenting at a European conference! Terrifying does not even come close and while, I completed the presentation, it was noted that I had done so standing on one leg

only; “like a flamingo!” A valuable lesson was learnt and now I do all presentations sitting down. Photo was from later when Dutch courage meant I had two feet on the floor.”

Adrian brings us back to present tense:

“I am always amazed by how many of our industry colleagues and friends want to meet with us to discuss their plans for aircraft importation into the EU. The number of meetings have increased year-on-year as our service lines increase and our EU footprint expands. I am looking forward to being even busier this year with the opening of our Irish office and continued growth of our Dutch import service.”
